Tools to Create Web Polls

Digg my article
There are many websites offering tools to easily create web polls on your blog or website. From the design and concept of PollMummy.com, it is obvious to make out that i am biased towards PollDaddy.com. But, I shall try to provide a fair review of the different options available for creating polls.

Polldaddy

PollDaddy.com is a website where you can create polls and embed them on your website or blog including the ones hosted on wordpress, blogger or typepad. You can also create polls on your myspace or facebook account.
My Comments on Polldaddy

  • Very clean and easy interface to create polls
  • No ads on the poll
  • The polls don't take visitors away from your page
  • The skins are pretty cool and you can even create one to match your blog's style
  • The code is provided either in Flash format or in Javascript format and it just requires copy-paste effort. No need to know any kind of html.
  • They also have a widget which can be pasted on a webpage and to which any poll can be attached. This is what i plan to do for the "Most Popular Poll" and "Latest Poll" which appear on the home page of PollMummy.com
  • If you want to change any of the options on the poll, just go to PollDaddy.com and change it in your account and it will be reflected on your page. No need to change the code on your page.
  • There is also an "other" option provided in the poll where users can enter their own option (not appearing in the list). But this can be seen only by the creator of the poll on the polldaddy's website.

Vizu Web Polls

Vizu.com also is a good option to create polls for your website. Similar to PollDaddy, you can embed the polls on almost any type of website.

My comments about Vizu Web Polls

  • I can add pictures to each of the Poll Options making it very easy to conduct a Picture Poll.
  • The look and feel of the poll is extremely customisable. All you have to do is choose the various colours through options to change the look of the poll. You can even save these setting to be used in a later poll.
  • The polls don't take visitors away from your page
  • I don't like the two links "Opinion Polls" and "Market Research" on top of the poll as i find it very distracting. Of course, you can argue that the poll is free and you are allowed to do that, but i would prefer links inside the poll rather than outside. Btw, if you want you can remove these links in the HTML provided, but it would be a breach of the Vizu terms and conditions, according to Vizu.
  • The code is provided in Flash format.

Twiigs - Online Polls

Twiigs.com offers Javascript Polls to embed on your website.

My comments about Twiigs Web Polls

  • The basic poll offered is very basic in its look and feel. Nothing flashy about the poll and it doesn't look very attractive. In fact , the only "flashy" aspect you can customise is the colour of the bar which shows the results.
  • But, this very point helps you to completely integrate the poll onto your pages. You might not even realise that there is a poll!
  • You can choose either the Javascript option or the inline HTML option.
  • The polls don't take visitors away from your page
  • You can also add a bit of css code (provided by them) to completely customise the look of the poll.
  • If you change the colour of the bars in the poll, you have to repaste the code in your website which is a big disadvantage compared to the other tools.

ILovePolls.com helps in creating remotely hosted pools to embed on your website.

My comments about ILovePolls Web Polls

  • The most important point is that when you vote on a poll, it opens a popup and an ugly one at that and i don't like this.
  • The customisation is tedious (at least for ppl not familar with html and the like). For changing the colours of the polls, you have to enter HEX values which is not very easy to obtain for those not familiar with photo-editing s/w.
  • Any customisation you do, you have to repaste the code on your page.
  • It is obviously not very flashy, at is just plain javascript.

Quimble

Quimble.com creates polls in many formats to be hosted on your website.

My comments about Quimble Web Polls

  • Simple and Easy interface to create the poll
  • Lot of options for getting the code of the poll i.e. AJAX, CSS, Javascript
  • I didn't see any customisation options for the poll. Did i miss this or is it a feature?
  • Needs more features to be added. Too plain a poll compared to its rivals.

BlogPoll.com

BlogPoll.com creates free blog polls for your weblog.

My comments about BlogPoll.com Web Polls

  • Takes the user from your website to BlogPoll.com when he votes or views the results, which is not good. The results page is of this format: Results : 10%, Google Ads: 90%. I had to search around the page to see the results.
  • The customisation options are pretty decent.
  • The end-result look of the poll is also ok.
  • But, this poll is the worst of the lot as it takes people off your site to makde-for-ads page.

Others

I tried a few more like the ones at BlogPolls.com and BlogFlux.com, but they were too yucky or too amateurish to even create a poll. BlogPolls infact had a tedious creation process (i had to first create a blog or something like that).
